Hip-hop artist, William Pen, addresses Covid 19, Police brutality In New Album

Orphaned at a very young age, William Pen naturally gravitated to music as a means of expression. A Philadelphia, PA native, this musical prodigy, began rapping when he was nine. At age 12, he was recruited into a musical group, FOU, Forces of TheUniverse with some neighborhood friends. At age 16, he formed the Yung Gunz - the original Yung Gunz rap crew in partnership with Clever (Kymmar Cotton), aka, Homicide Rhymes. He recorded with the legendary Ruggedness aka, Rug, from the Bat Cave at an early age. He was inspired by KRS-One, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Special Ed, Kool G Rap, Black Moon and a host of others, and would frequently be in rap ciphers; lyrical meet and greets with some of the most legendary rappers, musicians and actors of our time such as Eve, The Roots, and a host of others before they shot to fame. 

The nephew of Philadelphia music royalty, John Whitehead of McFadden and Whitehead, known for their classic hit, "Aint No Stopping Us Now," Pen is blessed with four children (Tayyib, Elijah, Malachi and Seirra), who are all songwriters and talented musicians; the first, Tayibb Ali, who has reached musical notoriety and fame in the world hip-hop community. 

With over 20 years experience, William spends his time seeking out and mentoring young talent. A renaissance man, he enjoys modelling, traveling, basketball, cheffing it up in the kitchen, among other things.

His single, Viral, released, May 16th, just a couple of weeks before a Black man, George Floyd was killed by a White Police Officer, Derick Chauvin (which has since led to nationwide protests in the United States and around the world), addresses the systematic killing of Black people by the police as well as the Corona Virus outbreak. I know, is a love song that is both gritty and playful. Soul purpose can be described as a collective street conscious expression, and Perfect, is a melodic hip-hop song that preaches self love in the midst of imperfection.
